We are studying the Scriptures about divine healing, to stir up fresh faith concerning this covenant blessing so we can receive healing from all sicknesses and all diseases.
Exodus 15:26 (NKJV) … I am the Lord who heals you.
- God revealed Himself as “Jehovah Rapha” - the Lord our Healer
- Supernatural healing from all sicknesses and all diseases is available to us today because of Christ’s redemptive work on the Cross
Matthew 8:16–17 (NLT) Jesus …cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. 17 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”
- According to Acts 10:23, sickness is “an oppression of the devil”
- In Matthew 15:26, Jesus called healing “the children’s bread”
- The Gospel of the Kingdom includes physical healing for the body
Matthew 4:23–24 (NKJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.
When we preach the same gospel of the kingdom today, we have to include physical healing of the body from all kinds of sickness, disease and pains.
The main activities of Jesus’ ministry on earth can be divided into 3 parts:
- Teaching (in their synagogues) Explanation
- Preaching (the gospel of the kingdom) Proclamation
- Healing (all kinds of sickness & disease) Demonstration
- Jesus demonstrated messianic healings to prove His identity
(Old Testament - Messiah, New Testament = Christ = the Anointed One)
Luke 4:16–21 (NKJV) So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
- Jesus quoted this messianic prophecy from Isaiah 61:1-2
- He claimed to be the Messiah by saying: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”
- His messiahship was confirmed by demonstrating messianic healings such as opening blind eyes, unstopping deaf ears, healing lame people & lepers, and raising dead people back to life, etc.
(Isaiah 35:5-6, Matthew 11:2-5)
- Kenneth Hagin said that Jesus told him in a vision that He repeated this same proclamation in every synagogue that He proclaimed in Nazareth
- Tragically, the people in Nazareth did not believe His proclamation, so He never gave them any explanation, nor was there any demonstration
- Jesus returned to Nazareth again some time later, but again, demonstration of healings were very limited because of their unbelief (Matthew 13:54-58)
- Satan always tries to put healing off into the future
Luke 13:10–17 (NKJV) Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. 12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” 13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.” 15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? 16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” 17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
- Jesus healed this woman who had a spirit of infirmity for 18 years
- He issued a faith command: “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity”
- He laid His hands on her and immediately she was made straight
- The synagogue leader was indignant because Jesus healed someone on the Sabbath day
- He said: There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day
- In other words, he said: You can’t be healed today! Come back tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after …
- He voiced satan’s message to all sufferers of sickness: You can get healed on any day you want to, except today …
- The devil wants sick people to think that healing is always in the future
- Jesus called the synagogue leader a hypocrite
- He pointed out that the woman, being a descendant of Abraham had a covenant right to healing
- Jesus called sickness “a bondage of satan”
- Healing is not just for today – healing is for RIGHT NOW
2 Corinthians 6:1–2 (NASB95) And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain— 2 for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”.
In Luke 4:19, Jesus proclaimed the Acceptable Year of the Lord.
NIV … to proclaim the Year of the Lord’s favor …
Apostle Paul said: The acceptable time is NOW!
Receive your healing right now.

Discovery Questions:
- What did the Holy Spirit emphasise to you during Sunday’s Message? What verse of Scripture or main point seems most relevant to you right now? __________________________________________________________
- Have you, in the past, been tricked by the devil into thinking that healing for your body isn’t for today but for some other day in the future?
- Do you believe that Jesus proclamation of God’s acceptable time applies to you personally, not just today, but right NOW?
__________________________________________________________
Putting it into Practice:
- Don’t put healing for your body off into the future again
- Issue a faith command and demand sickness to leave your body, nd receive your healing right NOW
- Continue to pray for, and intercede for the salvation of spiritually lost people in your circle of influence (family, friends, work colleagues etc.)
