June 16, 2019 Open the Floodgates Learning the laws of prosperity
Prosperity is built from Current and Stewardship; laws that can be seen directly in the fabric of Creation. The role rivers play in our natural ecosystem exhibits both these qualities. They show us how prosperity works.
Genesis 1:6,9 (ESV) 6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 9 And God said, “Let the waters under the Heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
The flow of water is present before we see plants, birds, animals and man. Four rivers flow out from Eden and are an underlying infrastructure for animals and vegetation to thrive. 1 Rivers embody both current and stewardship. Here in Creation, God is showing us how economy works with water as the currency.
● Rivers have a directional flow (current) of water that is foundational to the economy of Eden.
● To parallel, money has a directional flow (currency) that is foundational to the economy of modern society.
● The river is a "Steward" of the water (the resource), not a keep (opposed to a lake).
Current is a directional, persistent flow of a resource.
Phenomenon Resource Strength
rivers water Cubic meters per second (m3 /s)
electricity electrons Amplitude (amp)
economy money Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
All areas of your life need to be in a continual directional flow (physical, mental, financial, relational, knowledge and spiritual). Each current has a strength in a positive or negative direction. Fill out the table below to get a sense of where God’s prosperity is in your life today (and where it isn’t).

Stewardship is established and granted in the very opening chapters of Genesis. God calls humankind to take dominion over the earth. This was not to be a self-serving or tyrannical dominion. Because the original couple was in close relationship with God, they executed God’s Will on His behalf towards the Creation. They were to work it and keep it, Eden and of its plant and animal inhabitants. They were to reflect God’s character to the Creation.2 The Greek word for economics is oikonomia meaning “household management” and was later defined as the “Science of Wealth” . The Greek word for steward is oikonomos 3 (οἰκονόμος) meaning “household manager”. For the various areas of your life, are you owning them or are you managing them on the behalf of God? Owning them means making decisions that either don't reflect the interests or desires of the owner (God). God's interests in your life are for Good, are for Life eternal and are for prosperity. So acting on His behalf over your life produces good things, eternal things and things of prosperity.

God gives us specific instructions on how he wants various matters in our lives handled.
Malachi 3:10 (NIV) 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
God is instructing his stewards what to do with His money; too tithe to the church. To be a steward means to do this consistently, which also produces the current or currency. Notice the parallels God uses between tithing (currency) and the gushing of blessing illustrated as opening floodgates as we do with water on earth (current). The act of tithing addresses issues of ownership over our wealth. It also funds the resourcing that feeds the current of your spirit.
Parable of the Talents Matthew 25:14-19 (ESV) 14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
Buiring the talent Is wicked because prosperity is apart of God’s design. To deny it would be wicked. If Jesus is your lord and saviour, then he wants His Will over your life, he wants prosperity for you and stewardship is apart of how God intends for you to acquire it. But if you are onerous, hold and protect, rather than invest and grow, then you miss the victory and you become the wicked and slothful servant who buries God’s blessing in the ground.
Conclusion When you are a steward of God, and act on his behalf over the decisions in your life, blessing come as a result. You are then entrusted with more because you could be entrusted with less. So you continue to steward the blessings given to you and that becomes a current that bestows more blessing. Its like floodgates from heaven are opened and you won't have room to store it.
