- Live Your Calling - “What On Earth Am I Here For”?
Subtitle: CALLED TO BE LOVED
Today is the 2nd Sunday in our 40 Day Campaign: What on Earth am I here for?
To understand our life’s purpose & calling- we must begin with God’s nature.
Because God created us – everything about us starts with Him.
- God is love – Love is God’s very nature and essence
- Everything was created as an object of His love
Ephesians 1:4–5 (NLT) Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
- We were “planned for God’s Pleasure”
- The reason we are alive is - God wanted to love us
In this series of messages we are exploring God’s 5 “CALLINGS” on our life:
(Callings: purposes, reasons for existence, assignments)
A. The first PURPOSE of my life is TO BE LOVED BY GOD
There are many things we do after we get saved.
But our first duty in the Christian life is not to serve God, or do anything else.
Our first duty is to LET GOD LOVE US.
Jude 1 (GNB) From Jude, servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James — to those who have been called by God, who live in the love of God the Father and the protection of Jesus Christ:
Kenneth Wuest Translation: … to those who by God the Father have been loved and are the permanent objects of His love …
B. My first CALLING is to enjoy A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
It’s not about a role...a responsibility ... a rule .. regulations or rituals!
It’s about a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
God does not want us to be His servants, or his slaves or even His soldiers.
He first and foremost wants us to be His sons and daughters.
2 Corinthians 6:18 (NLT) And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
This is one of the most amazing truths! The Creator of the universe wanted a family, and He wants you in His family as one of His own children.
1 John 3:1 (AMP) SEE WHAT [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! …
THIS IS your #1 calling in life! To be a Son or a Daughter of the Most High God!
WHY would God do this? To express His love!
God’s love is extravagant, lavish and beyond comprehension.
Ephesians 3:17–19 (LB) And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; 18 and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself.
- How long? Long enough to last forever
- Human love wears out, but God will never stop loving us
- How wide? Wide enough to be everywhere!
- There’s no place we can be where God isn’t
- We may FEEL alone- but we never will BE alone
- How deep? Deep enough to handle anything!
- No matter what pain or hurt or problem we experience, God’s love can reach beneath us and lift us up
- How high? High enough to overlook my mistakes!
- Regardless- God offers to forgive us & help us start over again
Question: How would your life change IF you FELT completely and unconditionally loved by God every moment of every day?
WHAT CHANGES WHEN I AM CONTINUALLY AWARE OF GOD’S CONSTANT LOVE FOR ME?
- I FEEL ACCEPTED RATHER THAN ASHAMED
Many people avoid God because they feel ashamed, guilty and judged.
But God has laid judgment on Jesus Christ so we could be declared innocent.
Romans 5:1 (CEV) By faith we have been made acceptable to God. And now, thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ, we have peace with God.
This sets us free from any addiction to people’s approval, and always being worried about whether or not we are accepted by them.
Romans 8:33-34 (CEV) If God says his chosen ones are acceptable to him, can anyone bring charges against them? Or can anyone condemn them? 34 No indeed! …
We shouldn’t need the approval of others to be happy!
God has accepted us – His approval of us counts for more than man’s approval.
- I AM BOLD IN BRINGING MY NEEDS TO GOD
Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Romans 8:14–17 (NLT / LB) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 And so we should not be like cringing, fearful slaves, but we should behave like God’s very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family, and calling to him, “Father, Father.” 16 For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we really are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for all God gives to his Son Jesus is now ours too. …
We first come to God ashamed and convicted of our sin. But then, God forgives us, cleanses us and gives us confidence to approach Him with our needs.
- I HAVE GOD’S PEACE IN THE MIDST OF TURMOIL
There are times when we are in the middle of one of life’s storms, yet we experience the peace of God when in the natural we should be worried, or hurt or despondent.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NET) Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
The peace of God surpasses and reaches beyond our understanding. It is not dependent on our understanding of external issues or problems, but it is an inward confidence in God and His love and care for us.
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
4. I GAIN THE COURAGE TO TAKE RISKS
Many people’s lives are paralysed by fear.
- Fear of failure
- Fear of rejection
- Fear of man, etc.
Our confidence in life grows to the level of our realisation of God’s love for us.
1 John 4:18–19 (NKJV) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.
5. I WORSHIP INSTEAD OF WORRY!
Worship is expressing my love back to God.
God first loved us, so now we love Him back by worshipping Him.
Worry is a sure sign that someone doesn’t know, or has forgotten how much God loves them.
Matthew 6:31–34 (NLT) So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
SO how do I become one of God’s children?
John 1:12–13 (NKJV) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour we get born again and become a child of God.
THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE:
Romans 6:13b (NLT) Give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life.
